Senoritas and Shav’uot

Following on from last week, when we made Spanish fans, learned how to say and write My God loves me on them, we had a real treat. One of the mothers brought in a real peineta, the comb, and mantilla, the lace, for a try on. The castanets came out and with lots of flicking of imaginary skirts and stamping you could have sworn we were in Madrid!

As we track some of the major festivals that Jesus would have experienced, this week it was Shav’uot. Each donned a yarmulke, used a yad to read the Torah and sang one of our favourite songs – Hear O Israel, followed by A New Commandment.

Our study over the next little while is having a look at different countries where Christian communities are found. This is an extension of the Eucharistic Presence, growing our understanding of being the sheep of the Good Shepherd, to the sheep being members of our own church community and then understanding the international aspect of this community.

Keep your eye on this space – Ole!
